Sylvia Adele Jackson Vessels McMullen, 92 of Shepherdsville passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.
She was a Baptist by faith. She was the owner and manager of Jackson’s Grocery, also known as S&J Market in Salt River for 20 years. Sylvia was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She embraced and treasured every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in her yard, working on puzzles, quilting, and quality time playing rummy with her friends. Sylvia had a motto that she lived by “do what is right, do what is good, and be kind to others”.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Howard Jackson and Jim Vessels; her daughter Darlene Jackson; granddaughter Shelly Thompson; grandson Richie Stovall; her parents Stanley Irwin and Lona Worth; along with her sister Clara Warren.
Sylvia is survived by her daughters Joyce Thompson of Shepherdsville, and Peggie Tinnell (Sam) of Mt. Washington; sister Louise Fred of Elizabethtown; grandchildren Stephen Thompson, Jennifer Stovall, and Kimberly Nemeth; great-grandchildren Adyson Thompson, Ayden Thompson, Ashtyn Thompson, and Richie Stovall III; along with her beloved pet Biscuit.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Maraman Billings Funeral Home with Mark Veatch officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery.
Visitations will be Friday 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
