Richard Sherman "Hippy" Salings, Sr.

 Richard Sherman “Hippy” Salings, Sr., 76 of Shepherdsville passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Baptist Health Louisville with his family by his side. 

 Hippy was a Christian by faith, he attended services at Family Day Ministries. He was the owner of the legendary “Hippy’s Motorcycle Parts", a staple of the community. Hippy habitually had his morning coffee, more often than not; he had a cat curled up in his lap and a good book in his hand. Hippy was an avid reader, he enjoyed Mark Twain and devoutly read his Bible daily. Hippy had a gracious heart. He willingly gave his time and resources with no expectation in return. His generosity touched the lives of many. Hippy loved the freedom of taking his bike out on the open road. He traveled across the country selling motorcycle parts and connecting with lifelong friends he made along the way. Hippy placed family above all. He had it all. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He created a legacy from which people will say “I knew your dad, he was a good guy” for years to come, a touching tribute to a life well lived. 

 He is preceded in death by his parents Ruby Walls and J.T. Salings, along with his brother James Salings, Sr.. 

 Hippy is survived by his loving wife Sarah Salings; children Melissa Pratt (Jimmy) of Hillview, Sheri Gooden (Bob) of Shepherdsville, Rick Salings (Tracy) of Hebron and Theresa Clifford (Billy) of Brooks; siblings Darlen Mullen, Ruth Coleman, Timmy Salings (Carol), Steve Salings, James Salings, Jr.(Dana), Nancy Schmidt and Laura Stiner; grandchildren Jim Pratt, Brandi Haynes, Gregory and Abigail Rogers, Kelly and Trey Salings, William and Wyatt Clifford; 9 great-grandchildren, numerous feline friends, extended family, and lifelong friends all across the country. 

 Funeral Service to take place at noon on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Maraman Billings Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. 

 Burial will follow in the Ball Family Cemetery located on West Blue Lick Road. 

 Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025, 1-8 pm and Friday 9am until time of service at noon.
