Shepherdsville

Rhonda Lee Welch, age 75 years, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, following a sixteen year illness with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. She was the daughter of Robert Lee Farmer and Mary Belle Gentry Farmer and a native of the Zoneton area of Bullitt County. She was a graduate of Shepherdsville High School class of 1968 and later pursued paralegal studies. She had been manager of Welch Law Office, Shepherdsville, and Hebron Cemetery and had served on the board of directors of the Kentucky Cemetery Association. Rhonda had also served on the founding board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Bullitt County and was court liaison in the Jefferson County Family Courts for the Center for Women and Families both of which were very dear to her heart. She loved her many travels, the sharing of those travels with others, and especially loved hosting students from Ecuador who attended WorldFest through Indiana University and Sister Cities of Louisville. For many years Rhonda was pianist at Thixton Lane Baptist Church and was forever encouraging young children to attend Sunday School and church. She was a member of the Bullitt County Woman’s Club and Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church. Rhonda was an avid reader and played Bunco with some of her dearest friends. One of her dear friends, Linda Miller Ferguson, together with Linda’s daughter, Natalie Hodge, would become her treasured caregivers at home for over twelve years. Rhonda is survived by her husband, Roy Emerson Maraman Welch, Shepherdsville; her son, Terry Lee Cox, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who was everything to her; brother, Robert Alan (Bob) Farmer and his wife, Deborah Armstrong Farmer; nephews, Mark Farmer and Ross Farmer, whom she loved and adored; sisters-in-law, Ruthie Ashbaugh, Ruth Welch Ponti and Carol Welch Hatfield and a most special brother-in-law, Charlie Hatfield; several cousins, her church family and many, many friends all of whom loved her dearly and remained supportive during her incredible journey with Alzheimers. The family acknowledges with deep gratitude the caregivers: Linda Miller Ferguson, Natalie Hodge and Lois Sprinkles, the Hosparus team, and Mary Agnes Dawson Wilson as friend and in her capacity as director of the Bullitt County Senior Center for their years of unfailing dedication, loving care and devotion, and for the love of special neighbors and friends, John and Karen Sullivan. Rhonda was a lovely lady with a kind heart and gentle soul. She will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends and the community at large.Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 2nd at Maraman-Billings Funeral Home, Shepherdsville. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, February 3rd at Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church, Shepherdsville with burial to follow on the Welch Family lot in Hebron Cemetery, Shepherdsville.
