Patrick Eugene McGruder, affectionately known as "Pat," was born on October 26, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky. He departed from this life on February 5, 2025, at his home, leaving behind a legacy filled with love and laughter.
Pat was a dedicated contractor by profession, bringing his expertise and strong work ethic to every project he undertook. He was well known as a jack-of-all trades, able to tackle and resolve any problem that came his way. Beyond his career, he relished the great outdoors, indulging in his passions for fishing and hunting. His love for animals was evident, especially in his bond with his dogs and horses. Pat was also an enthusiastic follower of horse racing and devoted fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals. His adventurous spirit drove him to pursue aviation, where he earned his pilot’s license, accumulated numerous flight hours, and eventually acquired his own plane, giving him the freedom to go anywhere, anytime.
Among his many talents, Pat had a wonderful sense of humor, often lightening the mood with his witty remarks. He was always ready to offer a helping hand to friends and loved ones, standing by them in times of need, no matter the situation. He found joy in music, especially singing the timeless old Hank Williams songs that resonated with his spirit, and his legendary talent for playing the spoons left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to hear it. In the evenings, he could often be found baking pies and enjoying classic John Wayne films, a nod to his appreciation for the old western genre.
He is survived by his children, Heather Littrell of Florida and Haley Wagoner and her husband John of Louisville, his grandchildren Tristan Ragland of Florida and Vera Catherine Wagoner of Louisville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tilden Eugene "Pee Wee" McGruder and Patty Ann Cruise.
