Nell Sanders Pike passed away on June 14, 2012 at age 88 at her home of 56 years in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
Nell was born in Centertown, Kentucky and graduated from Lebanon Junction High School. She received her undergraduate and Masters degrees from Catherine Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Above all, Nell was proud to be a gifted elementary school teacher, and she taught fourth grade for many years at Roby Elementary in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. Her "Christmas Around the World" and "Monarch Butterfly" teaching units are still things of legend for generations of Roby Elementary graduates. Nell was chosen Roby Elementary's Teacher of the Year and Bullitt County's Teacher of the Year in 1976. Prior to becoming a teacher, she served as President of the Roby Elementary PTSA. After retiring from teaching, she was elected President of the Bullitt County Retired Teachers Association for two terms.
Nell was a Charter member and former two term President of the Bullitt County Woman's Club, and was active in the Club's annual scholarship program. She was also a devoted member of Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Visitation will take place at Maraman-Billings Funeral Home (502-955-9771), 605 South Preston Highway, Shepherdsville, KY 40165, from Noon until 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church (502-543-4422), 265 South Buckman Street, Shepherdsville, KY 40165, with internment to follow at Hebron Cemetery. Attendees and family friends are invited to attend a luncheon to be held at Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church following her burial.

Nell Sanders Pike was predeceased by her parents, her son, Danny Pike, and her brother, Foster Sanders. She is survived by her daughter, Burnell Esbenshade (Don), her son, David A. Pike, grandchildren Matthew Lemme, Claire Lemme (Carlos), Joshua Pike and Christopher Pike, and her four great-grandchildren.
