Myrtle Catherine Smith, 73 of Vine Grove passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
Myrtle was a Christian; she often read her bible and had a strong foundation of faith. She was a homemaker, her role was that of many different titles over the years; she was a devoted wife, loving mother to 4 girls and later in life she added grandmother to the list. She served as the cook, maid, nurse, therapist, disciplinarian, chauffeur, best friend, and guardian. It was Myrtle’s mission to protect those she cared for, to create a home where everyone felt valued and loved. She was a country girl at heart, fearless, sassy, full of grit, and quick witted. She loved to joke and make others smile. She was an avid reader, she enjoyed watching old movies and westerns, and had a flair for artistic creation. She drew realistic portraits and made detailed dolls. Calling back to her country roots, she danced barefoot to country music, Elvis being the King of course. She grew a yearly garden, her rose garden being her favorite. Myrtle went head on, full steam into projects, paired with her spunky attitude and selfless nature, she was an unstoppable force, she did it her way until the very end.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Evelyn “Eva” Phillips, parents George & Amanda “Alice” Pendleton, siblings George, Joe, Frank, Calvin, and Tommy Pendleton, Lois Hatcher, Patricia Smith, Jane Burns, and Beverly Fisher.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Ellis Smith; daughters Gail Douglas (Donnie) of Shepherdsville, Michelle Vessels (John) of Ekron, and Kim Creek (Kelley) of Shepherdsville; her son-in-law Carl Phillips, Sr.; brother Emmitt Pendleton of Louisville; grandchildren Jimmy Raisor, Johnny Douglas (Christina), Danny Raisor, (Ashley), Billy Keltner, Megan Richardson (Shawn), Kristina Raisor (Ashley), Julia Paige Parsons, Nikki Raisor (Heidi), Carl Phillips, Jr. (Katie), Catherine Phillips, Austin Raisor, Cody Raisor, Kassidy Raisor, Ethan Vessels, and Caley Vessels; 23 great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild on the way.
