Marvin Macon Lay, 88 of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at his home with his son, Tim, by his side.
Marvin was a Pentecostal by faith, and member of Evangel Word Prayer Center, where he served as a deacon and with the Lord’s Kitchen for many years. He was proud to be a U.S. Army Veteran, and to have worked at Ford Motor Company for over 35 years. Always putting his relationship with Jesus first, his other passions were poetry, woodworking, and crafting. He was self-trained, and there was nothing he would not attempt to do that involved working with his hands.
Marvin was kind, gentle hearted, and just an overall great man. He loved his bible study group and had many dear friends that all respected him and adored the relationship they shared together. He enjoyed golfing, and just like anything else he put his mind to, he would spend countless hours honing his game practicing chipping in his back yard.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 62 years, Faye Lay; his parents, Harvey and Willamena Lay; his siblings Bernita Newman, Herbert Lay and Gene Lay.
He is survived by his son Tim Lay and his wife Linda. A joy in Marvin’s life was traveling with his wife Faye and visiting Tim and his “Yankee Daughter-in-law” in Connecticut, and when she would come to visit him in Kentucky. His daughter Tammy Vincent and her husband Mark; his grandchildren Drew, Layney, and Allie Vincent; his nephews that knew him as “Uncle Macon,” Mike Lay, Marvin Lee Newman, Clarence Newman, and his wife Cathy, who were Godsends to Marvin and his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, at Evangel World Prayer Center on Billtown Road.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
