Judith Hortense Akers

May 27, 1933 — January 28, 2025

Shepherdsville

Judith Hortense Akers 91, of Shepherdsville went home to her heavenly father Tuesday, January 28, 2025. She was in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.

She was a Christian by faith and a member of Brandenburg Church of the Nazarene. A native of Gregoryville, KY, Judith married Earl Akers and together they settled and raised a family in Shepherdsville. She placed her title of housewife and mother above all but served in numerous positions including realtor, beautician, accountant, clerk, and teacher. She taught at Shepherdsville Highschool 1957-1959, then continued to substitute teach at the Elementary level. She had a passion for reading, she finished thousands of books, amazingly she could recall minute details from cover-to-cover decades after finishing the book. She was a skilled sewist and knitter; she made quits and crocheted. Judith was resourceful and talented; her designs were award-worthy, but she took pride in her family. She was loving and supportive, the best mother she could possibly be for her children. She was a special woman; she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Manford Akers; parents Rupert Melvin and Nellie Birtle Holbrook; along with her siblings Linda Wiseman, Elizabeth Holbrook, Bona Holbrook, Richard Holbrook, and Clara Holbrook.

Judith is survived by her children Jimmy Akers (Shirley) of Frankfort, Jeffrey Akers (Dyann) of Benton, John Franklin Akers (Amy) of Simpsonville, and Susan Fries (Mike) of Shepherdsville; sister Robin Woosley (Wayne) of Worthville; grandchildren Seth Oaklin, John Evan, James Albert and Jason Earl Akers, Stephanie Marie Fries and Debbie Brewer; great-grandchildren Oaklyn Ann, Elijah Paul, Asher Franklin, Chloe Michelle, Jackson Erik, Ava Malynn and James Dawson Akers, Cameron Shockley and Jerry Sullivan Brewer; her special friend Penny Happel Akers; along with extended family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Maraman Billings Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Yantz officiating. Burial to follow at Bardstown Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday 3:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
