Doris Ann (Koller) Korfhage
Born at home on South 28th Street January 7, 1925, she peacefully left her family November 6, 2018.
A graduate of Shawnee All Girls High School and General Hospital School of Nursing, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years James (Jim) D. Korfhage. Survived by daughter Sharon (Kenneth Gregory, Jr.) Bernardi and son James D. âJDâ Korfhage, Jr. 4 grandchildren: Dora Bernardi, Steve (Megan) Bernardi, Michael (Rachel) Korfhage & Matthew Korfhage. 2 great granddaughters: Lily, Madelyn and a third on the way. She is also survived by her brother Otto Koller, Jr., sister-in-law Lillian Mae (Woodrow) McCrea of Alma, Ga, and many nieces and nephews. Before marrying, starting her family and farming career, she served others with her nursing skills; enlisting in the Cadet Nurses Corp at the end of WWII and caring for psychiatric and TB patients (at Waverly Hills among others.) She taught practical nursing students the art of nursing for many years. When her children were older and could help more on the farm, she worked with the Red Cross, Bullitt County Board of Health and returned to General Hospital as a staff nurse. She retired in 1992 from UofL Hospital formerly General Hospital.
She and her husband were charter members of Bethany United Church of Christ, attending services at Southern High School until the current church building was completed in 1958. Despite the many changes in her life, she remained a faithful member, attending regularly until recent illness kept her from participating in weekly worship and other church activities. Until this year, she would meet with her high school classmates for lunches and other get together's. One of those was a friend for more than 80 years, starting in grade school together.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Maraman Billings Funeral Home with Rev. Ann Houlette officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
