Dollie Lee Meade was an extraordinary woman. Born September 8, 1944 she lived a life that most would have never imagined possible if they looked only at her childhood upbringing. But God had a plan for her that would take her beyond her dreams. Growing up mainly in Louisville, KY, she married at the age of 17 and had by then learned to play the accordion, piano and organ. This talent had opened doors for her to minister with evangelists at such a young age. One of those evangelists, Larry Meade, stole her away to be his bride and for just shy of 58 years she stood by his side as a powerful help mate.
She was a gifted administrator serving as the church secretary, daycare and Christian school director, and later as the organizational force behind Lighthouse Ministries and the great work in India. As a pastor’s wife she embodied the scripture in Proverbs and made her husband’s name great at the city gates.
She was an amazing artist, musician, singer (she recorded 2 albums) and so incredibly talented in decorating and creative projects. Everyone who knew Dollie, knew she was obsessed with Christmas. She would spend countless hours creating a wonderland every year in whatever home she was living in. She loved finding a good bargain at a yard sale. She was a coffee enthusiast and Hallmark Christmas movie lover. She loved connecting with her friends on Facebook. She just loved people. You would always find her pulling in one young woman or sometimes a “son” who she would pour her mothering heart into. She was a giver of gifts, always with someone in mind she could buy something for. She loved giving children’s clothes and jewelry, outfitting those here at home and in India with her great love.
Dollie was undoubtably a powerful woman of God. She loved her Father with passion, always speaking of her desire to know him more, but the true hurricane force of spiritual power that flowed through her was only seen by a few. When God began to lay on her heart to do women’s conference’s in India, there was an unleashing of anointing that was totally unique to her. She thrived on those times with the Indian women and desired her friends from home to come and be a part of that great work. Her missions heart coupled with this anointing impacted India in ways no one has yet to truly comprehend.
Her greatest joy was her family. Dollie is survived by her husband Larry Guy Meade and her only daughter Melody Ann (Meade) Riehle who was the pride of her heart. Her God given sister, Dorothy Basham and others who are more than friends, they were family to her in the deepest way. She has daughters all over that she leaves a part of herself in as well.
Dollie took pride in all of her titles in life; wife, mother, sister-in-law, friend, decorator, mentor, missionary and minister. Her greatest joy came in being known as a daughter of the King.
