Berniece “Pig” Greenwell, 87 of Shepherdsville, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.
Berniece was a Baptist by faith and a member of Riverview Baptist Church. Growing up a rural farm girl, she was an animal lover at heart; dogs, cats, chickens, even crows and skunks, at one time or another she has had them all as pets. Ironically, she loved everything but pigs! She loved gardening and enjoyed her job at Thieneman’s Greenhouse.
Berniece was very active in local and state government, having ran for county magistrate. She was instrumental in the foundation of Cedar Grove Elementary School. She was a cheerleader in high school, developed a love for soccer, and became an passionate fan of Louisville City. Later in life she became an avid reader. More than anything, she was a great friend; always there for people to lend a helping hand.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Ora Dell Smith; her son, Noland “Binky” Greenwell; her siblings, James, Leonard Jr., Marie, Russell, and Caroline Smith.
Berniece is survived by her loving husband, Larry Greenwell; her daughter, Rebecca Catalano, and her husband Joseph; her daughter-in-law Darlene Greenwell; her grandchildren, Jeremy Greenwell (Lori Knauer), and Chad Greenwell (Leann French); her great-grandchildren, Allie Mudd (Michael), Alex Knauer and MacKenzie Knauer; her great-great granddaughter Harper Mudd; along with two nephews, Dennis, and Thomas Smith.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Maraman Billings Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
